An election to the Board of Directors of Tammany Together, Inc. will be held at our General Membership Meeting on April 21, 2008, and the nominating process is now underway.
Would you like to serve on the Board of Directors of Tammany Together, or do you know someone who would? Any member can apply as a candidate as described below, but we are particularly interested in receiving nominations from the eastern side of the parish.
Individual Members and members of an organization holding a Group Membership in Tammany Together, who are residents of St. Tammany Parish and who are not an elected or appointed public official, are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors. Note that Group Member candidacy is not restricted to those designated as Group Member Delegates. Any member of a Group Member organization may serve, and Group Member Delegates are encouraged to canvass their membership for candidates. Directors shall serve for a term of two years and may serve no more than two consecutive terms.
There are two ways to place a name in nomination.
Candidates can be suggested to the Nominating Committee for their consideration by sending their names to nominations@tammanytogether.org, or by contacting Interim Secretary Sandra Slifer by phone at 985-875-9388. Please include the suggested candidate’s name, the name of the Group Member organization to which they belong if that applies, and their contact information including at least a telephone number and/or email address. The Nominating Committee will consider all suggestions and will choose from among them to propose a slate to the Board for its approval and submission to the membership for a vote.
Candidates may also be added directly to the slate by a write-in process. Members wishing to submit individual nominations may submit a petition to the Board of Directors, signed by five Individual Members, Delegates, or Alternate Delegates of a Group Membership or Umbrella Membership Organization. The person so nominated must consent in writing to have his or her name placed in nomination. Petitions and the written consent may be mailed to P.O. Box 352, Mandeville, LA 70470-0352, or may be hand-delivered by making the necessary arrangements with Interim Secretary Sandra Slifer by phone at 985-875-9388. All petitions must be received by March 7, 2008.
The board will announce the Nominated Slate and Individual (Write-In) Candidates to the General Membership by March 22, 2008.
