Nominations to the Board of Directors of Tammany Together are now open. Elections will be held at our Annual Meeting, which will be held on April 20, 2009.

As prescribed in our bylaws, the nominating process is as follows:

Nominees (a) must be either an Individual Member of Tammany Together or a member of an organization holding a Group Membership, and (b) must be a resident of St. Tammany Parish, and (c) may not be an elected or appointed public official. Members elected to the Board of Directors serve a term of two years and may serve for no more than two consecutive terms.

There are two ways that a member may be nominated for election to the Board.

Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee will choose a slate of directors and present the slate to the Board of Directors not later than March 6, 2009. The Board will then ratify the slate for presentation to the general membership. Members wishing to suggest someone for consideration by the Nominating Committee may submit their suggestions by sending an email to nominations@tammanytogether.org. Suggestions should be received by February 19, 2009, to allow adequate time for consideration. All suggested nominees will be considered, but suggesting someone to the Nominating Committee does not guarantee that their name will be placed before the general membership for election to the Board.

Individual ("Write-In") Candidates
Members wishing to submit individual nominations may submit a petition to the Board of Directors, signed by five Individual Members, Delegates, or Alternate Delegates of a Group Membership or Umbrella Membership Organization. The person so nominated must consent in writing to have his or her name placed in nomination. The signed petition and consent must be received at P.O. Box 352, Mandeville, LA 70470-0352 not later than March 6, 2009. Following this process will ensure that the nominee's name is placed before the general membership as a candidate.

The board will announce the Nominated Slate and Individual Candidates to the general membership not later than March 21, 2009, and the election will be held at the Annual Meeting on April 20, 2009. Members and Delegates must be present to vote. Details on the time and place of the Annual Meeting will be announced in a future notice.
