North West Comprehensive Rezoning kickoff meeting is this Saturday

Please see below for a press release from the parish, which we have just received. The meeting is this Saturday, August 8th, but as of earlier today it had not been announced in the newspapers or on the parish web site.

This will be a meeting for landowners in the unincorporated northwestern portion of the parish to explain how the comprehensive rezoning process works. It will not describe what zoning the parish is recommending for any particular piece of land, but anyone who owns land in the area should try to attend. Please spread the word.

Thank you,

Your Tammany Together Board of Directors

Rezoning Kickoff
North West Study Area Kickoff Meeting Set

St. Tammany Parish will begin the public input process for the last of five study areas as part of the two year process of applying the Unified Development Code across unincorporated St. Tammany on Saturday, August 8, 2009 with a general meeting for landowners in the North West Study Area. The Unified Development Code, adopted in the fall of 2007, is the new zoning code for St. Tammany Parish. All parcels in unincorporated St. Tammany will be rezoned according to the new code.

The North West Study Area is generally bounded on the east by the Highway 59, Highway 1082 and Isabel Swamp Road, on the north by Washington Parish, on the west by Tangipahoa Parish and on the south by Highway 36/US190/Tchefunta River. The area includes all unincorporated property northwest of Abita Springs, including the communities of Folsom, Barker’s Corner, Lake Ramsey, and north Covington.

A general meeting for landowners and interested citizens to begin the process in the North West Study Area will be held:

August 8th, 2009
Fendlason Community Center
13296 Highway 40
Folsom, Louisiana

"This process will translate the New Directions 2025 Land Use Plan, the Greenprint model, and citizen input into law," said Parish President Kevin Davis. "The zoning decisions made in this process will have a major impact on the future of St. Tammany Parish. I encourage all citizens to participate."

The Parish has been divided into five areas for the purposes of rezoning: South Central, South West, South East, North East and North West. The entire process is expected to continue through 2009.

The South Central Area rezoning has been adopted by the Parish Council. The South West and South East recommendations under review by the Council and the North East will be considered by the Zoning Commission at a hearing on August 18, 2009.

Questions or comments about the rezoning process may be e-mailed to rezoning@stpgov.org. For more information please see the project webpage at www.stpgov.org/departments_planning_rezoning.php
