How to report suspected public corruption

At our recent General Membership Meeting, Metropolitan Crime Commission (MCC) president Rafael Goyeneche documented a number of cases where input from ordinary citizens started processes by which public officials were eventually indicted and convicted on public corruption charges. He also provided the following useful information.

What Can You Do To Help?

  • Report all credible instances of corruption* to Law Enforcement or MCC.
  • Discreetly encourage business associates to report corruption.
  • If approached with an illegal offer, do not immediately refuse. Stall for time and immediately report the matter to one of the following:

* "Corruption" includes both unethical and criminal behavior on the part of elected or appointed public officials or those trying to influence them. Anything that appears to fit this description should be reported, even if seems like a minor incident. Small pieces of information often serve to fill in an evolving pattern and help build a prosecutable case. You have the ability to keep your identity secret when you make contact through any of the above means.

We encourage all Tammany Together members and friends to do their part in stamping out public corruption. Please keep the above contact information handy, and don't hesitate to use it if the situation warrants.
