Accomplishments
- Tammany Together formed in April, 2007.
- We now represent over 4,500 individual citizens and households in St. Tammany Parish.
- Specific involvement and achievements:
- Members of Library Committee are working with Library board and staff on major issues.
- Succeeded in getting new Uniform Development Code (comprehensive rezoning rules) online at
www.stpgov.org/pdf/1196088377.pdf.
- Educating the public on parish-wide comprehensive rezoning via press releases and public meetings on Greenprint and the rezoning process.
- Advocating with parish administration for more transparency and public access and input to comprehensive rezoning process.
- Participating in Home Rule Charter Review Committee with League of Women Voters.
- Discussions with parish administration to improve parish code enforcement.
- Drainage committee position used in zoning case & presented to Town of Abita.
- Attendance at parish recycling meetings.
- Persuaded DOTD to post No Parking Signs on I-12/Highway 434 exit and entrance ramps. Received commitment from LSP Troop L to ticket 18-wheelers violating the No Parking regulations and from DOTD to place additional No Parking Signs at other ramps in St. Tammany Parish if situation improves at Highway 434.
- 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status has been granted by the IRS.
- We have received strong, positive coverage on our organization and issues from media outlets.
- We have held two public informational meetings and three General Membership Meetings at which we informed and received feedback from members and other citizens on important issues.
- We have issued resolutions on Term Limits and On-line Parish Meetings, and a position statement on Development in Wetlands.
