April 19th Annual Membership Meeting With New Orleans OIG Ed Quatrevaux

WHAT DOES AN INSPECTOR GENERAL DO AND DOES ST. TAMMANY NEED ONE?
TAMMANY TOGETHER ANNOUNCES APRIL 19, 2010 PUBLIC ANNUAL MEETING

Ed Quatrevaux, the Inspector General for the City of New Orleans, will be the guest speaker at the Tammany Together Annual Meeting on Monday, April 19. The meeting is free and open to the public. Mr. Quatrevaux will discuss the duties, responsibilities, and mission of the Office of Inspector General and answer audience questions. The public is encouraged to attend this meeting as we begin to ask whether and how St. Tammany Parish could move forward with its own OIG.

According to the 2009 Louisiana Tax Commission Report, there are seventy-nine governmental or nonprofit entities receiving public monies through millages or fees in St. Tammany Parish. This doesn’t include the agencies receiving monies through sales taxes. Currently, there is no single entity in St. Tammany that has oversight over these numerous taxing authorities. Some communities in other parts of the country, such as Miami-Dade Counties in Florida, have consolidated this oversight to the Office of Inspector General.

In addition to the presentation and Q & A with Mr. Quatrevaux, other agenda items include membership and financial reports and an update on the Neighborhood Notices project.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 PM on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Fire District 12 building, 19375 Highway 36, at its intersection with Highway 21 in the Claiborne Hill area of Covington. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. A map showing the location of the meeting is available at www.TammanyTogether.org/files/FD12.jpg.

Please plan to attend, and invite your friends and neighbors.
